—: THE SLOT TELEPHONE. 'At the fortnightly meeting of the Miramar Borough Council Inst night there wore present the Mayor (Sir. F. Town send). Councillors E. M. Stone, H. A. Smith, S. H. Underwood, T. Tracy, H. Hawthorne, and Dr. Edith Huntley. . It was decided to comply with the "Worser Bay School Committee's request to tarry out tho work of levelling the school ground at a cost of £20, the money to bo found by the Education Board. Seatoun Park was tlie subject of applications by picnic committees, and it was decided to grunt the use of tlie park, on tho usual conditions, for tlie following gatherings:—Catholic Boxing Day picnic, Boxing Day; Kilbirnie Salvation Army Sunday-school jjicnic, New Year's Day. For damage done to S'eatoiui Park by tho Expeditionary Force, the council decided to claim tho sum of £49. The Mayor reported that he had interviewed the Post and 'Telegraph authorities in regard to the slot telephone in the borough, and had suggested that it should be installed underneath the verandah of Mrs, Patterson's store. Tho Department had agreed to look into the matter, and had given him an assuranco that -tlio telephone would be retained somewhere in the district. Counoillor Stono remarked that tho council in the first place had wanted it placed by Mrs. Patterson's store. Tlie Mayor: We can leave the matter with {lie Department now. I might state that since the complaints made at tho last meeting of the council, the box has again been broken into and the money stolen. In reply to the council's request that a police constable should be stationed in tlie district, tho Minister of Justice (tho 'Hon. A. L. Herdman) wrote stating that the matter would receive careful consideration.

On the Mayor's suggestion, it was agreed that the member for the district should ibe approached in reference to the matter.
