In oorroboratipn of.tho awful stories whioh have been reported from time to time"; as to the atrocious lengths the Gorman soldiers go in terrorising the populace, Mr. Royle's sister- writes that sho had actually seen the twq children in the case. One had both its hands, lopped off at the wrists, and the other had its two ears; clipped off. "These are the acts not of men,'but of beasts," says Mr. Roylo; "and are deeds which should place tho Gerniftus beneath the lowest criminal in our estimation. Under such circumstances the alliance with the 'unspeakable Turk , ■vas but natural." \ ,
