AN EXCELLENT RECEPTION (By Telerroph.-PreM Aflsoolatlori.) ,m „.- Temuka, November 17. . . -The Riglit Hon. W. F. Massey d» livered a political address at Tenvuka tins evening. The building was crowded, over ono thousand people being present. The Prime Minister was hi his best form, and met with an excellent reception. Long continued applause greeted him as he ascended the platform. . In his introductory remarks Mr. Massey referred to the death of Lord Roberts, and said the manner of his death would impress upon the British people tho lesson of his life that the best way to ensure peace was to be prepared for war. Speaking .of the second Expeditionary Force sent from Now Zealand, Mr. Massey said he could give an assurance that the men were well to-day, and in good 6jpirita. Dealing with naval defence, he emphasised the necessity for New Zealand doing her share in providing adequate naval defence in the.Pacific, and urged that Australia, New Zealand, and other British dependencies in the Pacific were under a duty to place a Hying squadron in the Pacific which would he able to hold its own. •Mr. Massey replied in detail to Sir Joseph Ward's Winton speech, and sketched tho future policy of the Reform Government. At the close of the speech Mr. Massey was accorded a hearty vote of thankß and confidence.
