"SPECTACLE OF BLOOD AND MISERY"
POPE'S VOICE ON THE WAR (Rec. November 17, 7.15 p.m.) Rome, November 16. The Pope has issued hia first Encyclical. He says that "this spectacle of blood and misery induced me to harken to the last words of my predecessor to begin my ministry with praying to princes and the people to end this fratricidal war. I pray God that my Pontifical voiia of peace may resound through the entire world." Regarding the existing conditions of the Church and Humanity, he declares that these are due to the lack of a sincere and mutual love amongst men, dis■rospect for authority, injustice subsisting in class relations, and a tendency to make materhl welfare the aim in life. ''I will devote my entire Pontificate to overcoming this menace to society.'' His Holiness concludes with 'a protest to Italy for depriving the Vatican of its political liberty.
