RESULTS 01'' EMPIRE < COMPETI- • ' TION. : The results of the Schools of the Empire shooting , competitions during 1913, which have now been received,. show that the Now Zealand teams which competed did exceedingly well, winning second place in the senior -competition, and .first, second,- and third places ' iu the junior contest.
In'tho senior competition for the Prince of Wales's Challenge Cup (presented by H.JL.the King'when Prince, of Wales) 49 schools competed, comprising 23 in the United Kingdom, 12 in Australia, 12 in New Zealand, and one each in South, Africa .and India. The cup was won by the "Charterhouse School, England, with a total of 502, the New Plymouth High School winning second place with a score of 501. The Nelson College' team finished thirteenth with 477, the King's College seventeenth . with 474, the Auckland Grammar School eighteenth with 473, 'tho Waitaki Boys' High School twentieth with 470, the Otago Boys' High School twonty-eight with 445, and the Wanganui Collegiate School thirty-first with 433. Tho New Plymouth High-School's total will accordingly be considered a very, good porf'ormajice. . Tho best individual scores were put on by Sergeant A. M. Sutherland, of the Now Plymouth High School, who with 67 tied for first place with two other youths in other portions of the Empire, and Serfioant R. S, Alford, Auckland Grammar School, and Corporal S. Ewing, New Plymouth High School, both of whom, with sis others, registered totals of 66.
The junior competition for tho Natal Shield (presented by the colony), which attracted only four entries, was won by tho Auckland Grammar School with a total of 4GS. The Waitaki Boys' High School came second with; 462, and tho Otago Boys' High School third with 417. The Auckland .Grammar School also won tho shield in 1912, so that it has now won it twico in succession.
Tho competitions arc held yearly, under the auspices of tho National Riflo Association.
