THE CITY MARKETS
During-the past week the market has been handling the first of this season's stone fruit, jn the shape of cherries, ivhich arrived from Sydney by the Moeraki, together with tlio usual small shipment of citrus fruits from tlio same source. '* 'Bananas from Fiji, via Aucklaud, arrival yesterday, and realised very good values, owing to the market being; practically bare of this class of fruit;, Vegetables - generally • are in fair supply, with cabbage, in an ovor- . supply; the latter haying receded gradu; ally since last report. - French beans from also local greenhouses; are tij hand. Owing to the continued dry spell; : tlio: spring vegetable season will in all-probability be a short one, as already reports are coming to hand showing that! Nelson pea crops are short. Both": hew'arid old potatoes have firmed during,the week, while onions are maintaining'high prices. Fresh eggs are in keen/demand at late rates.
