GERMAN PLOT TO BLOCK THE SUEZ CANAL

Mors came to Egypt in 1909, and eecured a 1 ieutenancy in the Gendarmerie. Hβ was really ;•>spy with a staff of numerous conspirators, appointed to foment a rebellion. ..anous princes and notables were identified with the Nationalist movement, and assisted Mors. ' Prior'to the war Mors went to Germany, and also visited Enver Bey'at Constantinople regarding a native rising in Egypt, and returned to Alexandria with a mission to blow up'divers ships in. the canal and so prevent the Indian and Australian reinforcements reaching Europe. ' /' ' : The plot was discovered, and Mors was arrested wearing a fez containing detailed maps of the canal and instructions from Germany how to block the oanal. Two big dynamite bombs were found concealed in his lodgings.- Mora made a full confession and furnished a list of his associates, who were arrested and many deported. Mors- eaid that Germany gave him £10,000 and threatened to shoot him if he turned coward.
