BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS
THE WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION,
The annual meeting of the Wellington Builders' and Contractors' Indus-, trial Union of Employers was held this week. Mr. A.M. Wilson presided'over a well-attended gathering of the trade. The. annual report made reference to many matters of interest to the trade and dealt especially with the various phases of a large number of trade disputes. Those under consideration during the year included tho carpenters', bricklayers', stonemasons'. Plumbers', and-builders' labourers. Special reference was-made to the proposed amendment (not accomplished) of the Wages Protection -and Contractors' Lien Act. This was recognised as of vital importance to the builders of the Dominion, as failure to secure its passing through the Legislature would have left it possible for. 25 per cent., of the contract prico for all building contracts being withheld from the builders for 121 days instead of 31 days. •
Tho election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. P. C. Watt; vice-president, Mr. H. Mainland; treasurer, Mr. Geo. Day (re-elected); secretary. Mr. W. A. W. Grenfell (reelected) : committee, Messrs. A. M. Wilson (retiring president), J. C. Brown (re-elected), and D. Burke; auditors, Messrs. A. Johnston and W. A. Clarke (re-elected).
