Admiral von Ingenohl,. Commander-in-Chief of +he German High Seas Fleet, first came under the notice of his Sovereign as a lieutenant 'aboard the Kaiser's yacht, the Hohenisollern. This was in 1889, during a cruise to Norway and England, and in 1904, after holding a number of minor commands, he was recalled to the Royal yacht as captain. In that capacity lie accompanied the Kaiser on many important voyages, including' the famous meeting with- the Tsar in Finnish waters, and thohistoric journey to Tangier in 1905. His enemies say he owes much to the Kaiser's favour.
