GERMAN REGIMENT AND BATTERY AMBUSHED
CLEVER COUP BY TWO FRENCH BATTALIONS (Reo. November 11, 9.15 p.m.)' London) November 11.
Correspondents report that the Germans recently made desperate efforts to pierco tho Allied line at Warnoton, north-east of Armentieres. Two French battalions, on November i, ambushed the Eighth Regiment of Prussian infantry, which was occupying a village five miles from Warneton. Ono regiment hid in a wood, and during the night another crept up to a farm on the other side of tho village and cut down a German battery before it was able to firo :i shot.
When the fog lifted the regiment in tho wood dashed into the village. The Germans were surprised, but Tallied. Then tho second regiment appeared in the roar, and 350 of the Germans surrendered. The rest were killed—not a man escaped, Tho whole battery was cauturcd.
