CHARGE IN A FOREST
GERMANS SABRED BY FRENCH CAVALRY ("Times" arid Sydney "Sun". Services.) London, November 8. 'Ascertaining that a German force occupied the forest of Parroy, eighteen miles east of Nanoy, two French cavalry regiments, carrying machineguns on horseback, fruitlessly sought them the whole night. Suddenly, in the morning, they stumbled upon the outpost, who surrendered, saying they were tired of the hardships and long marches, and would gladly surrender if they could save their faces. Later, the main body of the Frenoh came in contact with the enemy. The Germans started firing in the air, and the French, failing to grasp the meaning of the manoeuvre, charged with drawn sabres. In the face of a fierce fire, pressing the charge home, they killed four hundred, while three hundred and fifty surrendered. The rest fled in confusion.
