APPEAL BY MR BERNARD SHAW ("Times" and Sydney "Bujq" Services.) (Rec. November 9, 6 p.m.) London, November 8. The fir.e of the German artillery has reduced Penvyse, noar Ostend; to a heap of bricks. The streets are impassable. The churches wore destroyed, and hundreds of shells made a ghastly spectacle in the cemeteries, tearing out the coffins from the earth and scattering -she human remains.- • Mr. George Bernard Shaw, the author' and playwright, in an open letter in the "Nation," addressed to President Wilson, petitions America to invite the neutral Powers to a conference for the purpose of requesting Great Britain, France, and Germany to "withdraw from innocent Belgium and fight in their own territories."
