By Telesraph.—Press AasociaUon-OoDyrigM STATE PROHIBITION VOTING IN AMERICA. Washington, Novmber 6. Tlie State Prohibition vote exceeded 12,000. The largest figures were at Oregon and Arizona. California adopted a law preventing the recrudescence of the Prohibition movement until 1922, but disallowed prize-fighting by a 20,000 majority. MEXICAN POLITICS ANOTHER PROVISIONAL PRESIDENT; Mexico City, November 6. After several minor revolutions, fomented at the instance of Villa, General Gutierrez has been'6eleeted as Provisional President of Mexico,. Villa agreeing to withdraw bis pretensions if Carranza is also eliminated. NATIONAL PENNY BANK ■ DECLARED INSOLVENT. London, Novembor 6. According to tho Offioial Receiver's statement, the National Penny Bank is insolverit as regards the shareholders. For several years the investments in the balance-sheet were assessed at cost, whereas they had depreciated £245,487. The managing director at the last trieninura received £7000 per annum, ill addition to free premises, coals, and light. The Bank of England will advance tho depositors five shillings in the £.
• The ,-National Penny Bank was _ incorporated in 1875, and it had a nominal capital of £150,000, in shares of £10 each. The company had issued 11,825 shares. Some had £5 paid, some £1, and in somo cases money had been pajd in advance for calls. In all there'was £50,325 uncalled capital. There were 132,706 depositors, the total amount of the deposits being £2,267,178. Almost half the depositors were for amounts under £1, although' there were a few largo depositors. On August 24 tho shareholders passed the usual resolutions for voluntary winding-up on the ground that the company was insolvent. On October 1 the affairs of the bank name before Mr. Justice Sankey in the Vacation Court, and His Lordship made an order for the compulsory wind-ing-up of the company. The Bank of England, at the request df the Government, agreed to make an immediate advance of ss. in the £ to depositors in the bank, and the trustees were to realise the investments as opportunity offered to repay the.loan, with interest at 4 per cent. \ - NEW ZEALANDER KILLED. Sydney, November F. H. W. Hall, a Now Zealand member of the South African Contingent, was accidentally killed by a fall from a building.-
