There are inany advertisements from young men who profess their willingness to enlist and from others who, unable to ' go offer to fill the places of those joining the. Expeditionary-Force; • Hie Christchurch "Press" has unearthed the following samples— A gentleman, aged 29, unfit for aotive service, offers his gratuitous ser-: vices as chauffeur to free a chauffeur willing to enlist—"preferably to a doctor or someone to whom a car is necessary."; "A public school boy, forced to sacrifice situation, on enlistment, would ho deeply grateful for assurance of employment on his return." • "A public school and ex-O.T.C, man, aged, 30, 9. years'on a Canadian ranch, is anxious to enlist, and aska whether anyone will contribute £3 weekly to support his family while on service." Another advertiser anxious to join the forces for service abroad,; "desires' a loan of £200 (no'.security available) to provide for the old folks at home*" In another advertisement there is a plaintive appeal for some patriotic lad.v or gentleman to make a Territorial a loan of £5' to enable him io buy his clothing before going on foreign service. In yet another a patriotic person is sought to pay the. rent of the advertiser's offices for six months to enable him to join the Army. Another advertiser asks for a patriot "who will make it possible for a'gentleman, 25, good physique, rider, and swordsman, to enlist by givin« his wife £150. .... , .
