Mr. Fisher subsequently announced that tho Commonwealth had engaged to lend New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and West' Australia money during twelve months for public works, the money to be raised by making the note issue unconvertible. It is understood that Mr. Fisher's negotiations with the Imperial Government resulted iii the latter agreeing to raise £18,000,000, whicn will probably be included in the next British war loan. Of the eighteen millions to be raised, New South Wales receives about eight millions, Victoria about four, South Australia and West Australia three each, and Tasmania about a million.
