■■■•'..'- ♦- ;■•;'•,!■ In response to the request for assistauoe which was received by the New Zealand authorities of the St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas, it is interesting to note how energetically the v&rioua corps ! and divisions . are ' entering into their work. The nursing sisters of tho Waimate Nursing Division' were amongst the first to enter the lists, they organised a street and house collection, which resulted in a sum of £137. 16s. being raised and remitted to Sti John's Gate. The members of the Oamaru Nursing Division and their friends were also'quickly on the scene, and obtained'£llß 15s. Bd., which, with a donation of£32 6s. 4d., made by the local Patriotio Committee to the Oamaru Ambulance Division, provided a total of £151 2s. for the Order of St. John. Articles of clothing suitable"for the use of the siok and wounded are also being largely contributed to the Queen Mary's Needlework Guild, the list showing the following as the latest contributions:—Hokitika Ambulance Division, 26 Nightingale jackets,* 27 pairs bed socks; Greymouth Nursing Division, .18 Nightingale jackets, 14 pairs bedsocks ; Ohristchurch Nursing Division, 25 jackets, 15 pairs of bed-socks; Selwyn Nursing Division, 44 packets, 34 pairs bed-socks, 2 caps, 1 parcel linen; Hamilton Nursing Division, 282 cholera belts, 55 -undershirts, (58 Balaclava caps, 9 pairs socks, 106 handkerchiefs, 4-pairs underpants, 9 pairs trousers, 5 coats, 15 vests, and 40 other articles, while for tho poor 250 garments have been provided. ■
