PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
■WELLINGTON SOCIETY MEETS. ■ The fortnigntly meeting of the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held last night. Mr. J. S. Jameson presided. _ .... . _In his fortnightly report to the society, Captain Henry reported a num-' her of cases of cruelty to animals he had discovered.and remedied during the past fortnight. He brought under tho notice of the sooiety a case of. overcrowding of sheep in a truck at Nga-: hauranga. lfc was explained that tJie truck contained some 20 sheep over the' specified number allowed to ;be accommodated. Three were dead .and some others dying. The stationmaster, said the inspector, had remedied the overcrowding and removed a number of sheep. The society decided to place the matter in the hands of a solicitor.

Stewart, Mr. Duncan, Mesdames Brown, Mitchell, and Rose, 2s. 6d. each; Mrs. Lawless and H.8.K., 35.; Mrs. Kidspn, Friends (2), 2s. each.; nine subscriptions of Is.; total, with smaller amounts, £11 os. lOd.
