The steamer Winifred, with 140 men and a. Maxim aboard, planned to attaok JKujung Bay, German East Afrioa, and got within'two thousand yards of the '.Germans' fort, which opened fire with 9-pounders. The shells struck the .Winifred above the watorline and damaged her funnel.., The steamer retired, but the same night returned wjth another British vessel and found that the Germans had fled. The English flag was planted on/tlio fort.
