."From Our Special Correspondent.! j A meeting:'of the Petone Technical School Board was held'last'-evening,, there being present: Mr.- J. Castle (chairman) and.Messrs. M'Ewan ; Roots, Hobbs, Cox;- and Coles. , The director s report stated-that ..eight students _ had attended the sheep-shearing classes at . Hutt Park, where 450 sheep. supplied by Mr. S. V. Burridge were shorn. The class continued -3 i days, .and the' instructor (Mr. Terry) .had taken, great pains in the teaching of this work. With respect to three students, J.Shakelton,D Johnston, and J. A. Scott, who went up for the'wool-classing .examination,, it was reported that all had passed, the first section, ■■ first grade. Messrs. A. and T. Burt'had<offered- & prize for.the plumbing class, and' Mr. G. Blakely me for tho electricity class.' Contributions had been received as follow : -Petone Council, £30 ;" Lower Hutf Council, £20; Gear Company, £25: Wellington Woollen Mills, £5; total,; £80. .The Butfc County Council had? contnbuted £10. to the Upper Hutt branch, and £2 had been donated from' other, directions; -total, £12; *Tho report-was adopted.- - A "social" was held'at the -Petone Methodist Institute last evening, under the auspices of the Young Men's Bible Class, Mr. A. Ackroyd presiding over alargo attendance.- During the evening the opportunity was taken to present the indoor sports cup (offered for competition among the Federated Bible Classes of Petone and won \by the Methodists). The chairman, in'handing the trophy over, congratulated the class - on their victory. Miss -Foster. -Mr.. •Chamberlain, and others contnbuted vocal items. ' - . ' T At the-King George Theatre, Lower Hutt, a successful "flannel dance_was held under the auspices of the White House Assembly. - About thirty couples attended. Mr. S. Clark acted as, M.C., and Mr. ,F. Pilcher supplied the music. The Mayor of Petone '(Mr. rJ, W. M'Ewan) has received £5 from. Father Ouealv as the. result of a church, .collection ;'los. from the Petone Housewives! Union, and 7s. 6d. from the Jackson Street Methodist Church for the localDistress Fund, which now amounts to £38 18s. 5d., exclusive of'the LiverpoolFund of. £24 14s. 9d. _ ~._o, ... At Lower Hutt tho. Mayor (IVlr. H. Baldwin) acknowledges receipt of .£o, ■13s from the Wellington .Meat Export Company, per Mr. Jarman, for the local Relief Fund.. a ; ; - ~.' At an early hour yesterday; morning. Miss Hermine Amelia Mothes, daughter of > Mr. R. Mothes, of Petone, passed awav peacefully. • -Within the space of tbreo years Mr. and Mrs. Mothes have lost one son'and two' daughters, and ereat sympathy is being extended ' to them by Pqtone citizens.. Two sons, Messrs. F. and E; Mothes, are away with the Expeditionary The late Miss, H. A. Mothes was in her, twenty-fourth year,i.and was bom m P Tne e runeralof Mrs. Elizabeth Devine, & very old resident of the Hutt Valley, took place yesterday at the Taita Ceme. terv, the service being conducted by the Rev. Win. Beckett. The deceased lady was 86 years of age, and had resided in the Valley for over sixty years.
