RICCARTON TRACK NOTES.

EXPECT AN ABSENTEE. 1 (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Chi'istchurch, November 2. A fair amount, of wdrk, mostly of the 6tendy order,, was got through at liiccartoii this morning. The plough, tan, and sand tracks were open and provided good going, is*oiics, with a light-weight in: the saddle, covered half ii xuile on the plough . comfortably. in 53sec. Tannhauser (Oliver) was given a round oji the sand, and ran home over.the lost

half-mile in 53 2-ssec. This Welcome Stakes candidate, Interlude, sprinted three furlongs in 38 l-oscc. Tete-a-tete and Bertrada were together at the end of half a mile, run in 52 4-oscc.

Crown Pearl, alone, was going well ivithin himself,'; after half a afle on tho plough, in 52sec.' ' .■. Einaldo, assisted by Charmilla over the last' four furlongs, covered five furlongs in lmin. 6 l-ssec. The' Cup candidate was running on well at the finish, and there is yet a reasonable chance that he may eeo the post for his engagement on Sat-

urday. Postillion (C. Price), alone, covered the last three furlongs. of a half-mile task in 37 l-ssec., moving well. Campeador and Balboa, - with lightweights iip, were together' at the end of half a mile, run. in 53sec.

Idealism took 53 l-3sec. to cover the last half-mile of a round on the plough. Bleriot was carrying a fair weight when running a similar comfortably in 55sec.

Guiding Way (A. Eeed) moved boldly throughout a two-round task at' half-pace on the plough.

Beldame had no difficulty in register-, ing 52sec. for half a mile on the plough. Kooya and Labourfflay wero restricted to steady pacing. | ' • Sea Pink (E. Walsh) and Eingform (A. Eeed) wero associated in a mile and a quarter gallop on the plough. An even pace was maintained, throughout, .the first half-mile taking 51sec., six furlongs lmin. 22sec., and the whole journey 2min. 17 4-ssec. Eingform appeared to be going 6lightly the better of the pair .when the post was reached.

Merry Eoe and La Reina, separately, got through steady work on the % plough, and Fabrikoff was allotted a similar task.

; Feramorz (A. Reed) and Steinheil (lightweight) were together, at the end of nine furlongs, .run in,2min. s'sec. After breakfast, Glee and Teviotdale sprinted three furlongs up tho .back in 38 Msec. .

Among the others worked' were Multifily. Chortle, Indigo, Mysteriach, Reputaion, Red Book, Margarine, Vocation, Kilrain, Sir Moseley, Downham, First Flight, Floweret, Holiday; Asterias, Hyettus, Hymettius, Daytime, Bee, Twelfth Night, Banian,XSnnbeam,. and Kilmeny. '- 1 "The Looker On" writes in the' "News": "Expect has bruised'one of his.heels, and his trainer fearis has- given.: one of, his shoulders; a slight rick.,' As the horse is very forward, and has really finished his New Zealand Cup: preparation,. Price, is sanguine about getting him to J the post on, Saturday. He has not worked this morning. He showed signs of 'soreness while doing' waiking • exercise, ;60 his ..trainer haa ..one of his front shoes removed. He is to be shod with leather." ! Samisen and Oriando, the two, fillies in A. M'Auley's stable, are both well-grown youngsters, and ■ if they would only keep sound they might earn good money. Both .of them are always lame in front. Jtfone of Sainisen's family ever, stood the strain of training. ' Kilmeny and The.Pole are both very well' just now, 'and' both, of them, 'have many supporters for the Hurdle.Race. Kilmeny has only started once sincere hurthimself' at Grand National time. He'ran-' in a Welter.at. Timaru. and'never showedup very proniinently. The Pole< has earned two winning brackets during.!th'e ; lost, month, and \yon both races with thegreatcst of- ease. •

Rinaldo .wa's'oxer'cised' r yosterday. .His hind fetlock fills rather badly, if he'is left in his box.,- ' iWa'i'step is none the, worse for. .the.fine' gallop she put up on Saturday. . Otatara is a good stamp for a jumper. He gets over his fences in a bold- manner, and should make' a.namo for himself .at the steeplechasing.-game: later;on. . : i 11.'., Coker' has' ,been' engaged; 'to'- pilot. True Blue : -his'-r steeplechase, ment at Win ton' this weeK, The-grey'; horso 'is very ; well at; present.' •/ Thrax ■is ; being - "hacked about". and' will bo put' inte "work as. soon as ;the rush and;'bustle, ( of the Cup meeting, is' over." .'

; The' field for ; tho Oaks looks as; if'.it will be very weak. Certainly it 'will" not be as strong as last year's. " . Feramorz is . a line bipr horse; He was imported from Home "to 'Australia; but did-riot run well and got the reputationof being a rogue. Afterwards hb was brought to New Zealand. i-.; ;'.

Fabrikoff does not look like,'running out. a strong two miles. Nobody has been engaged to ride him in'the . Cup yet. , Beldame has lost none of her pace' and is always capable'of putting up'a-good gallop over four jfurlongs,' but I don't think' she will , see out the- Stewards' Handicap' over..six furlongs. Postillion has a lot of pace and is quite big-enough to carry any but he does not begin well, enough to compete with some of the light weights, who are . good beginners. . Sir 'lloseley is' a very handsome horse and he gallops fast on the. track,-but I cannot like bin chance against some of the sprinters. he has to meet in the Stewards Handicap.

• Merry Kfte is looking very well. I cannot imagine her. starting in- the New Zealand Cup and she is not doing work to fit hei to win a Stewards' Handicap. Later on.in the meeting she will'take, a lot of beating. This'morning she galloped oijco round on the plough; under a good pull. , Sartorze can always be, relied on to gallop fast when the colours are not up. ' Bert Wormald will ride First- Glance In tho Stewards' Handicap. R. Berry, who! has piloted her in most ■ of her wins,. is riding Downham. -'<■ , Bimetor did not go too' generously in his work to-day.

Gasoline, who, won three raoes at the Greyinouth meeting, will )>o a runner' at the Cup meeting; He arrives from the Coast to-morrow. Marsa has not been doing well and is a doubtful starter•• during the meeting. Nithsdale looks as/rough as ever,-but h(j : is still capable 'of winning a lace when the company is not too select. Indigo is getting plenty of work and moves nicely. a sure starter in. the Cup. Troon ie doing particularly well. „ Guiding Way has arrived from.. the. north. He looks well, but on Trentham ru&niiig hei can have very little chance in the Cup. _ / : Tannhauser is doing good wjork. I won't have his Trentham form as correct.

'Chortle is not carrying a great'amount of iron on his feet. ' ,

La Heina was going rory short in the first circuit of a twice-round task. She went much more freely over the second pircuit. She is being treated much more easily than- she was last'year. Bonny Helen looks much fitter than she did at Wellington. She goes well on the track and is sure to run a good .race at the meeting.' 1 • Sir Hamilton, who was sore after tileDuncdin meeting, was given a spell. He resumed work this morning and , appears to be quite well. Bortrada, who could not gallop'on the hard going at Trentham,' is moving much better now.
