After , : TjniDoiriNio>f went to press on Saturday morning, the disouseion in Committee on- the Iron and Steel Industry Bill was continued. The amendment which Mr.; J.; A. Young had said he would'move—that no purchase price should be pß,id by the State inany cir- ' cumstances in respect of goodwill in the event of the State deciding to acquire the enterprise^—was moved by the Minister and agreed'to on the-voices. Another amendment referring to purehnso by-the State was accepted bythe committee- on the motion of the-Minis-ter. In the Bill as originally, drawn it was provided that the State must purchase within four years of the expiry of the period within which-the-bounty was to be payable. The Minister's; amendment was" that at any time after March 1, 1928, the State might purchase—the date of expiry of bounties being March 31,. 1924. ■ ' The Bill was road, a third time on the voices. . .. , BILLS FROM THE COUNCIL. Amendments made by the Council in the Pensions' Amendment Bill and the New Zealand Loans Amendment Billwere agreed to. A compromise was effected on the Education Bill. Certain details of little mbmont and the clause pessed by the House on tho religion instruction question—to give the School Committees power to allow-school buildings to be used for the imparting of religious teaching after school hours—was reinserted in the Bill. The House rose at 2.35 a.m.
