Mr J. B. Adams has returned to Christoburoh from a visit to London, which he niado for tho purpose of submitting to the Hoard of Trade a new life-saving raft which ho recently designed. Tho chief fca turea of this raft aro two metal sylinders tilled with kapoo and secured by transverse, beams, the wholo structure mea3ur. ins lot: m length and 4ft. in width. Mr. Adams states (says the "Lyttelton Times") that the Board of Trade officials, received him very courteouely. and were much impressed with the merits of his invention. Ihe raft was subject«d to severe tests, and demonstrated its cfflcoiuc.v in cvecy case. Weighted with 6001b. weight of iron bars it floated just submerged, aad with half that weight over one cylinder which remained at the samo depth, the other cylinder floatoil on tho surface of the water The officials who conducted the tests have since informed Mr. Adams that they have recommended the adoption of his raft by tho Board of Trade.
