NAVAL FLOTILLA AIDS BY GALLING FIRE
GERMAN REPLY FROM, SHORE DOES SMALL DAMAGE,
The Prime Minister has received the following message from the High Commissioner, dated London, October 30, 0.15 a.m. : — > . Tho Secretary to the Adnuriltv announces that a British naval flotilla continues to support the Allied Left. Since the morning of_ the 27th, fire from 12-inch guns has been'brought to bear upori the German positions and batteries. Reports received from the shore testify to tho effect and accuracy of the fire and its galling character. Tho flank attack has thus. been thoroughly mainYesterday and tho day before the enemy brought up heavy guns and replied vigorously to the fire from Admiral Hood's ships. The vessels only received (rifling structural damage. ' To-day the opposition from the shore practically ceased and the preponderance of naval gunnery seems to'he established. The casualties have been slight. A shell exploding on the destroyer Falcon killed an officer and eight men, and wounded ouo officer alid_ fifteen men. One killed and several wounded are also reported from the Brilliant; also one wounded on the Rinaldo. The enemy's submarines liavo also been reported as seeking an opportunity to attack the bombarding ships', which aro covered by BritislT destroyers. ■
The destroyer Falcon"carries a crow of GO men, I'hoKlnuldo is & sloop of .980 tons. .--....
