STRONG FORCE READY TO ■■ CRUSH IT
The principal item in"the news' to-day is the announcement that the Allied forces are Bearing Ostond. The British are well to the , front in the movement, and two villages which they have taken at the point of the bayonet are but five miles distant from Ostend itself. The , movement continues to.be materially assisted by the British Fleet, which has poured a galling fire from 12in. naval guns into the Ger- . man ranks. In Prance the Allies have Tepulsed attacks, and gained ground at certain points. The operations in the eastern theatre of war are of a satisfactory nature, and the Austro-Germah forces appear to be in steady retreat westward before the-Russians. The news from South Africa is reassuring. A large force is ready to stamp out the rebollion, more of Maritz's men have surrendered, and though disloyal abts have taken place in Orangia no blood has been shed.
