The House. of Representatives has passed through all stages a Bill provid- " ing for the safety of tho Commonwealth ' during tho war, giving extensive powers : to the naval and military authorities m dealing with aliens, tho import or export of goods and other olfences, and ; fixing heavy penalties. Amongst other i provisions, is one that tho Government v' may deport aliens, wh'ethor naturalised or not naturalised. Mr. Cook (Leador of the. Opposition) i thought that the Bill forechsted martial law, and was not prepared to place such powers in tho hands of Naval and Military Boards, but, though he did not , like many of the provisions, he would ' jjot oppose tho Bill. i
