, ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meoting of the Wellington Philosophical Society. was_ held in the Dominion Museum last Dr. C. Munro Hector, presidont ot, tie society, was in the chair. ■ In accordance with a motion by Dr. Thomson the question of altering the society's rules was considered. After somo discussion certain alterations were agreed to.' • Mr. Hogben submittal the following notice of motion for consideration at tho next meeting of the council "That the library be handed over to tliO'custody of the Board of Science and Arts, under conditions specified." The annual report of tho . 60ciety, Wliicli was adopted, mentioned that since tho last annual meeting 28 new members had been electod. The total number now on the roll was 181, including nine life members. A statement of the receipts and payments for tho year ended September 30, showed that inclusive of the balance brought forward from last year (£Bl ss. 7d.) tho receipts amounted to £109 15s. Id., and tho total payments wore £158 ss. Bd., leaving a credit balance of £251 9 s." 6d. This balance included tho Hamilton Memorial Fund of £105 25., thus leaving £146 7s. od.' available for the society. Tho lifo subscription fund amounted to £67 Os; 9d., fid tho research fund to £45 12s. 2d., both including interest at 4J- per cent. _ in accordance with tho rules of the institute one-third of tho income of the scciety was to be devoted to the upkeep of tho library, the sum available under this mlo was £62 Is. 10d., and out of this £45 os. 3d. has. already been spent on tho library, leaving a balance of £17 Is 7d. which, with the balance nf £18 2s lei. carried forward from last year, leaves £35 4s. Sd. still to be spent on the library. The council had allotted part of this sum to meet tuo demands of the sections. Hie secretary of tho technological section stated that tho membership, of the section was over 50The reports of the other sections were adopted. Officers for tho ensuing year were elected as follow: —President, Mr. T. ICino-; vice-presidents, Professor Kirk and Dr. Hector; council, Drs. Cockayne and Allan Thomson, Professor Easterfield, and Messrs. S. II; Jenkinsoii, B. C. Aston, E. Parry, Goo. Rogbeu, P. G. Morgan, A. C. Gilford, and R. W. Holmes. , After tho formal business of the annual meeting had concludcd tho following papers were road:—(1) "On tho Development of the Ovule and Embryo oi Notopanax Arboreum" by Miss E. M. Pigot, .M.A. (communicated by Prof. Easterfiekl); (2) "Additions to our Knowlodgo of Recent. Brachiopods ol New Zealand," bv Dr. J. A'. Thomson. On account of tho lateness of the hour discussion on the second of the above papers Avar-.adjourned'to a future meeting, and-'a paper, "Notes on Matai Jieer," by Mr. <7. C. M'Dowall, held over.
