__ 9 —. ~ .- MONTHLY MEETING. . At the monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board yesterday the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken presided, and there were also present: Messrs. J. Kebbell, A. W. Hogg, H. Freeman, C. M. Luke, W. Allan, T. Moss, and W. H. Field. Tho financial statement showed that the debit balance on October 23 was £M 548 9s. lOd ■ ; On the motion of Mr. Kebbell tho chairman and the chief inspector (Mr. T. 11. Fleming) were appointed the board's representatives on the Committee of Advice. A circular was received. from the Board of Agriculture suggesting that instruction bo given in schools regarding the points of horses and other stock, through demonstration by competent judges. . The matter was referred to' the inspectors for report. It was decided to support the Christchurch Board's protest against the practice of granting only half cost of school sitos required. On tho recommendation of the. Finance Committee, the following grants wc-ro authorised:—SoutSi Wellington, sand shed, subsidy £ for £ 'asphalting, extension and alteration; Mount Cook Boys', improved lighting, three rooms, asphalting front ground; Kaiparoro, repairs to shelter shed; Clyde renewing corridor floors; Petone West, roofj sashes,, painting, etc. j . Taito, roof .painting: Kaitawa, new range for residence; Worser Bay, earthwork; Korora. re-erection of outbuilding destroyed by fire; Gfeytbwn;' papawai residence, interior painting; Bideford, residence, papering and painting; Parkvale, drainage, papering, repairs, etc.; Belvedere, fencing; Porirua, fencing, school and residence; Petone, repairs to walls of cookery room; office', portfolios for plans; office, fireproof room, distemper interior white. '■ In preparation for the erection of In- • fants' School at Maranui ; an expenditure of £180 was authorised for excavations, blinding, and fencing. It was resolved ''that the application for ground improvement s at Epuni stand over until members have an opportunity of visiting the hamlet."
