HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Hutt BorougH Council was held last evening, thore he-ing present: The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) and Councillors Hodgins, Meldrum, Brassoll, Clendon, Parsonage, Purdy, and Hobbs. It was agreed to allow the Fitzherbert School tho use of the recreation ground for their annual sports meeting on November 6. An application from N. Tredonnick for a permit to erect a wooden building in fiailway Avenue (brick area) for tho manufacture' of ice cream was refused. The secretary of the Western Hutt Electors' Association asked if the council ] was prepared to remunerate a suitable person as keeper of the proposed receiving paddock for stray etock at Alicetown, and it was resolved to allow half of the poundage fees for this purpose. The secretary of the Hutt Park Committee acknowledged receipt of a letter re Hutt Park rates, and advised that the matter would be considered at the committee's meeting. In this connection, -the. Town Clerk asked for instructions regarding the subsidy of £30 voted, desiring to know if the payment of same should be held over until the Park Committee's decision re the payment of its rates was known. A discussion, which at times became somewhat heated, and in which the administrator of the Hutt Park's affaire was again mentioned, ensued. The Mayor advised the council to sue tho committee for rates, thus bringing in Petone and Eastbourne, and Councillor Purdy urged that the council , should pay its subsidy to tho park, minus the amount due for rates, adding that if there was to be any flghting to let the committee do it. It was decided eventually to hold over the payment of the subsidy until the decision of the committee became known respecting the rates due. Messrs. Butcher, Reed, and Co. advised that they were prepared to supply six autoliditere, without pledging the council to" ■ purchase any greater quantity.— Received. The Health Inspector reported two cases of diphtheria, and one of tuberculosis in the borough. rhe engineer's report recommended that in order to miminiso the dust nuisance, a portion of the main road be lightly scarified, dry rolled, and tarred, at an estimate} cost of £1(30 .Two connections havo been made with tho gas, and ono with tho water mams, making the total, number to date 60 f and 9(9 respectively.
