TENDERS FOR ELECTRICAL PLANT Melbourne, Ootober 27. 1 Tho City Council discussed the Electric Supply Committee's report in connection with extension of plant at a cost of £71,000, and decided that tenders be called for British-made machinery. No tender in which German or Austrian capital or work is concerned will be considered. ' Alderman Meagher moved that during the continuance of tbo war ten por centum preference be given to Empiremade articles. Other councillors strongly approved tho principle! some favouring preference all tho time. It was pointed out that ninety por centum of the firms trading in electrical goods in England were actually German companies, and there was veed for caution allotting tenders. Tho matter was , Jeft in the hands of a sub-committee. GERMAN FLAG AT A PICNIC. Syclnsy, Ootober 29. At a picnic at Rivcrina, a centre largoly composed of Germans, the German flag was hoisted. A policeman present was asked to obtain its removal to prevent trouble, but before this could be accomplished a few British present pulled it down and destroyed it. .
