LABOUR DAY

■TO-DATS PROCESSION AND • SPORTS. Labour Day will to observed as a close, holiday throughout the city and suburbs to-day, and it is expected that the great majority of the citizens will turn out to witness the big processoin which is to take place in the morning. Practically the whole of the unions will be represented in it, and some-of the exhibits will be particularly fine. The procession entries will assemble at Government Buildings, Lainbton Quay, at 8.30 a.m., dra--v for places, and be judged ; at 9.30 the procession will move off for Newtown Park, proceeding via l'eatherston Street, Customhouse Quay, Jervois Quay, Cuba Street, Vivian Street, Kent Torr&co, and Adelaide Road. At Newtown Park an alklay's sports gathering will be held, commencing at 11 a.m. The attractions as set down on the programme include Highland dancing'competitions (to commence at 2.30 p.m.), a baby show (at 3.30), and ocean wave, side shows, tug-of-war competition, music, and toys for children. Hot water and milk will be supplied free. Many valuable trophies have 1 been received since the programme was drawn up, and will be allocated to extra | events. _. , ■ A handsome brochure has been issued by the Wellington Typographical Union as a patriotic souvenir, which is intended to commemorate the day, and to be sold in aid of the Mayor's patriotic and Huntly miners' distress funds. In the evening a vocal, instrumental, and picture entertainment in aid of the Huntly Disaster Relief Fund will be given in the Town Hall, under the auspices of the Labour Day _ Committee. The programme to be provided will include vocal and instrumental selections ty Misses Myrtle M'Laughlin and Betty Purdom, Mrs. P. L. J. Foster, and I Messrs. Oharles Clarkson, Courtenay, V. Mohr, R.. Simpson, and P. Leo Minifie.. •
