OBITUARY

CAPTAIN THE HON. CHARLES MONCK. Their Excellencies the Earl and Coun« tess of Liverpool received a telegram early on Saturday morning to the effect that Her Excellency's only surviving brothor, Captain the Hon. Charles Monck, Coldstream Guards,. has been killed in action in France on. Wednes-. day. October 21. The late Captain tho Hon. Charlep ■ Monck, who was born in 1876, was th( eldest son of the fifth' Viscount Monck. Ho was educated at Eton, and subset quently entered tho Coldstream Guards. Ho served in South Africa from 1899 to 1902, and received tho Queen's Medal with seven clasps and the King's Medal ! with two clasps. In 1904 he married Mary Florence, daughter of Sir William . Wyndham Portal, second Baronet, He leaves one son and two daughters. In, tho present war Captain Monck greatly distinguished himself in the retreat from Mons.

In the HOU6G of Representatives on Saturday morninf, the Right Hon, W... F. Massay, Priine Minister, submitted the following motion to the House:— "That this House desires to express to Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool its deop regret at tho death or her brothor, Captain the Hon. Charles Monck. of the Coldstream Guards, killed while serving with His Slajesty's forcea in Franco, and respectfully . ten-, dors to Their Excellencies its sincere sympathy with them in their bereavement." .
