The garrison subsequently learned that he was retailwith seven hundred Germans and traitors.- Thereupon the garrison went to Colonel Maritz's. old camp, seized thirty-eight rifles, and destroyed the remainder, taking ten thousand rounds of ammunition and seventy _ horses. Maritz overtook them near" Keahardt and a hot fight ensued. The garrison escaped and were chased for sis days until they reached Carnarvon, Practically the whole countryside in the south parts of Calvinea, Frassrburg, .Carnarvon, and Kenhardt are actively pursuing Maritz.
