■■■ ■'•• ANNUAL MEETING. . Hie annual meeting of the Wellington Zoological Society was held in Mr. J. Castle's room New-town, last night. The- Rev. J. Crewes. presided. The report, a precis of which has been published, was adopted. , . ■■.. '•. His Honour Sir Robert Stout was Tiniahirnouslyro-electcSi patron,' arid the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) 'vice-patron. The Rev. J. Qrewes was again nominated for the position of ..president, but refused nomination. . He said that ho had nover regarded the position as liis by any pre-emptive right, and now that the society had become strong and generally respected, and as he had other pressing business .to attend to, ho thought that Gome other member should be elected. • Mr. Crewes proposed Mr. lnos. Fathers, and Mr. Castle seconded the proposal, and Mr. Fathers was unanimously elected. , ~ , The following vice-presidents were elected:—Messrs. H. A. Parkinson, M A., D. M'Laren, C. J. Lockwood, E. Bead, R. Brown, and R. A. Wright. Members to torm the . council were elected as under:—Mesdames J. Pollock, J. Castle, S. H. Underwood, and Winter, Rov. J. Orewes, Rev. .J. Ward, Messrs C. M. Luke, R. H. Chmohen, E. Collie, H , . J. Crewes, A. Crosby, F. J, Cateran, M. G. Grensido, A. R. Hornblow, A. Martin, R. Morrish, J. flewhouse, A. E. Parker.J. Pollock, S. H. Underwood, and R. Ferguson. Mr. J. Castle was Te-eleoted secretary and treasurer, and Mr. R. H. Chinohen was re-elected auditor. A letter hy the retiring president was read, and endorsed by tne meeting. It touched on |t>he preservation of the tuatara lizard, and will be forwarded to the Minister .of Internal Affairs (the Hon. H. D. Bell). , High appreciation, of the work done by the society in the year was expressed, and the council, the'retiring■president, and 'other .officers were cordially thanked. A vote of thanks to all those mentioned in the report Was carried by aco'amation. ,
