pIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLES
The prime Minister has received the following messages from the High Commissioner in London:—
' .-, /London/.October 20, 1 p.m. The Allies gamed ground and repulsed • attacks, .[hey are now in the Chanlnes region.,, The Allies have been fighting ten. days strenuously north and south of 'Arrae, and aro holding their positions firmly. Advances are recorded on. tho' •La Bassee, Ablin (nine miles north of Arras), and Saint Nazaire fronts. There ;]ias been further progress on tho Left iWing between Lys and La Baesee Canal, •iiv-tne direction of Lille. The Allies, particularly tho Belgiane, repulsed attacks and advanced to Roulers. 'The jecemy's artillery bombardedwithoub result along the front from Niouport to .Vladsloo.
London, October 20, 7.5 p.m. Official.—The Belgian Army is maintaining its position on tho line of the Tser, whero it was violently attacked. 'Actions are taking place in the region of Ypres, where the allied force is en? 'gaged. The Germans continue to hold strongly advances to Lillo in the direction, of Armentiers, Fournes, and La Bassee. The enemy vainly attempted to repulse tho Allies at the Meuse. Progress has been made at various points from the front of October 19.
