The official news from, the western theatre of the war showe that the Germane have made another desperate effort to drive back the Allies, but at all points they have been repulsed. The fighting has been very severe on the Allies' Left flank, especially at La Bassee, but the German "punch" is not now what it was at the beginning of the war. The German morales impaired, according to tho opinion of .the military authorities. The Belgians ore again specially mentioned for their stubborn resistance. From the Russian side there is news of incessant fighting, and in this theatre.also the Germane are meeting -'■/ with reverses. West of Warsaw the Germane have been hurled back on. ■ to their lines, and the fighting here has been hot and incessant. The ■ Austrians a-re being severely handled by the Muscovites in Galicia. The Austrians are inviting trouble with Italy, and the .situation is ' grave. The Press and thexpeople of Italy are keen to have the nation side with the Entente, and the mobilisation of the fleet following •on the partial mobilisation of the Army ie significant. In the Balkans there are fresh developments.- Greece has practically completed the mobilisation of her army, and Bumania and Bulgaria are reported to have come to on arrangement which secures' for the former freedom of action and immunity from attack from her neighbour. Since the death of King Carol, Rumania has given unmistakable signs of sympathy with the Allies, which will presently be translated into active eupport. These fresh developments, may have a restraining effect on Turkey. ■ The news from South Africa, indicates that General Botha, by prompt action, has not only local ised the Maritz rebellion, but has also inflicted defeat on the rebels in the initial encounter. Colonel Maritz'ie said^,j»'tave.quarrelled; ;w/ith the Germane, who are anxious to 66e him do something. There is nothing fresh from the Japanese section of the war, except that certain islands in the Pacific have been ocoupied-for military purposes. • '
