Much interest was displayed in the resumption - of tho wool sales, and besides the buyers there was a big attendance of the public, who greeted with cheers the brokers' announcement that they would only accept bids on the express condition that buyers were not'acting oil behalf of principals in Germany or Austria. A number of German buyers watched tho proceedings. French, Belgian, and Swiss buyers wero also present, but did not operate; 5541 bales were offered, and the 6ales, including private transactions, totalled 10,613. , The demand was keen on Yorkshire account for the better classes of crossbreds and merinos, and some Japanese and American orders were also placed. Good crossbreds 6old at 5 to 10 per cent, above the , opening sales of last sea-son; good crossbreds showed a drop of 5 per cent. : mediums 10, and faulties 15 to 20 per , cent.
