ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE
It has been officially notified by the War Office that, tho AmTmlanee Department of tho Order of St. Jolin of Jerusalem forma part of fho Red Crops Organisation of Groat Brit Kin, equally with tho British Red Cross Society and tho; St. Andrew's Ambulance Associatioil, and is rccognised by the British' Government under Article 10 of tho Geneva Convention as a society to assist tho Medical Services in time'of war. Already over 4000 men of the St. John Ambulance Brigade ' havo been mobilised in England as Hospital Or-' derlies with tho Navy and Army, several thousand more being held in reserve. Surgeons and a "largo number of fully-certified hospital nurses, havo been dispatched by tlio Ambulance Department to tho seat of war at the request of tho Belgiaii Hen Cross Society. An urgent appeal for funds has been made on behalf of the organisation, and it is gratifying to know that iu tins. Dominion tlio matter is being warmly taken up, and ail (Tie (Hnsions of pie St. John Ambulance Brigade are doing thai? utmost to assist ■■ tho mother society with money and material. His Excellency the Governor lias written to the Deputy-Commissioner for Now Zealand expressing his appreciation of the action which is being ial;cn.
