The Government had refused'io be a party to any proposal for bringing steamers from Batavia, and would not consent to lay the suggestion ,be< fore the Admiralty. The meeting resolved to cable to Messrs. Burns, Philp, and Company's agent at Batavia'to ascertain the extent of the requirements of the Norddeutscher Lloyd and the. German-Aus-tralian companies respecting the transhipment of cargoes from the Roon, Stolberg, Luneberg, Lubeck, and other steamers sheltering in Java ports.
