BOMBARDMENT OF PAPEETE
INDEMNITY FROM GERMAN PROPERTY. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, October 17. Messrs. Maxwell, Young and Co. have received letters from Papeoto which state that the French Government had issued a notice that it -will claim against German property at Tahiti and adjacent islands under tie French flag, 1,000,000 francs (or £40,000) to help .indemnify the losses caused by the shelling of Papeete. Tho Societe Commerciale de L Oceanic is tho principal German house effected. Its headquarters are at Hamburg, and its interests in the Eastern Pacific worth at normal times more than 1,000,000 francs.
