SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS
FIFTH ANNUAL-MEETING. (By Toleffraph—Press Association.) Dunetlin, October 15. The fifth annual meeting of the New Zealand Society of Accountants was held to-night, about 40 members being presont. ' Mr. J. Brown, vice-president, occupied the chair. The annual report stated that the present membership was 1007. The income and' expendituro account sliows a surplus of £402 15s. 10(1. for tho year, and the accumulated fund stands at £3356 16s. 7d. In moving the adoption of the report and balancG-slieet, tho chairman criticised the decision to insist on candidates passing the Senior Civil Service or matriculation examinations beforo sitting for tho professional examination, and said lie did not think the Rociety would have anything to fear if such a test wore abandoned. Ho thought the system of apportioning grants to university colleges on an a£ tendance basis would have to bo readjusted. Tho council might have to faco. an increased grant to colleges, whero the present subsidy was inadequate. The following wore elected to tho council:—Canterbury district, Mr. AV. T. Bottrell; Marlborougb,. Nelson, Westlaud district, Mr. E. J. Harvey.
