HUNTLY MINES REOPENING
SMALL SUPPLY OP "PERMITTED"EXPLOSIVE SECURED. (By Telegraph.—Prose Association.) Auckland, "October 15. Arrangements have been made'.by the directors of the Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd., for the resumption of work in the Extended Mine upon the delivery of 'the limited supply of the "permitted" explosive, which has been obtained in Australia. Notices were posted in Huntly- yesterday by the manager of the Extended Mine, announcing that work would bo started in probably ten days. Considerable difficulty was experienced by flu) company in obtaining explosives that can bo used without danger. Inquiries wore- instituted immediately tho company was informed that JMouobel powdor was dangerous, but it was found that owing to interference with supplies by tho war, stocks held in Australia wero very low. The company also learned that explosives could not ho exported from. Australia without permission of the defence authorities, and there was a further difficulty that tho shipment could not be made in a passenger steamer. A small quantity of "permitted" explosive has Deen secured, and will bo brought to Auckland in a collier sailing from Newcastle. No advice has yet been received as to whether supplies ordered from England can be furnished.
