A statement of the City Corporation's receipts and expenditure for. tlio six months ended September 30, 1914, was placed before the City Council last night. The total receipts for the period were £41,025, and the total expenditure £116,359. Principal items of income were as follow: —Konts, £15,320; rates, £8635; water by motor, £76'26; licenses, £4019; and Town Hall letting* £1093. On the expenditure side, tlie more important figures were: Interest, £21,496; waterworks, £21,105; street works, £18,774; Hospital and Charitable 'Aid levy, £6514; drainage, £6301; street lighting, £5015; ecarenging, £4704; refuse and destructor, £4067; salaries, £3934; fire brigade, £3449; and City reserves, £3274. During the current eix months the sum of £162,359 is due to complete the year's estimate of rates, while the rents to bo collected total £19,087.
