BASIN RESERVE
THE PROPOSED ALTERATIONS. Protests against any interference by the City Council with the rights of tho public m regard to the Basin Reserve havo been inacle' recently by Mt. W. Tonks, who has given notice of a Sik preme Court action to havo the position defined. The first protest by Mr. Tonks was mado after the council concluded an agreement with the Wellington Cricket Association in regard to the playing area, and another has resulted from the recent decision to carry out tramway alterations, etc. In the course of a long letter to tho council (read at last night's meeting), Mr. Tonks stated that in order to carry out the alterations it would bo necessary to get on Ordor-in-Council and this would be strongly objected to by the citizens. The letter was received. Councillor R. Fletcher desired to move: "That tho resolution passed by tho Wellington City Council at a special meeting held on October 9, 1914, approving the scheme of alterations to tho Basin Reserve, as set out in tho report of the City Engineer, dated September 22, 1914, and shown on plans signed by tho Oity Engineer, bo rescinded," but was interrupted by a point of order raised by Councillor M. M F. Luckie, who inquired if tho mover had complied with the standing orders in regard to giving the necessary notice. Tho Mayor sustained the objection.
