HUTT ROAD BILL
OBJECTING BOROUGHS^
At the beginning, of tho week tho draft of the proposed Hutt Road Bill prepared by the City Solicitor, was sent out to each of the local bodies concerned, and since then a copy of the Bill has been submitted to the AttorneyGeneral. At the meeting last week, when the board was provisionally constituted by resolution, the Mayor of tho Lower Hutt (Mr. H. Baldwin) declined to vote, and the Mayor of Pctene (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) voted against' the motion:- In-course of conversation yesterday, .Mr. Baldwin informed a Dominion reporter that although the local bodios had not had a fair chance to consider the proposed measure, yet it had been forwarded on to the Government. Mr. Baldwin stated that both the Hutt and Petono Borough Councils were against the measure, and did not approve of the Bill as' drafted, and in view of the measure having been forwarded to tho Government, he'and Mr. M'Ewan, on behalf of their boroughs, had sent formal protests against tho measure as drafted to tho Attorney-General: The Makara Countv Council was, hesaid, also against the Bill. . ' -When seen regarding tho matter, his Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) stated that the bodies concerned' had received draft copies of tho Bill as arranged, and- he assumed that it either had, or would be, considered as their meetings wero' held. The Bill was considered by the Legislation Committee of the City Council.on Tuesday,-and its' report would come before tho council at this evening's meeting. Probably a meoting of the members of the proposed board would bo convened for some tune next week, when tho views of all the interested local authorities could--be considered.
