NEW ZEALANDER AT ANTWERP
(Rec. October 14, 9.20 p.m.) '; London, October 13. Mr. Barr, an officer of the Union Steam Ship .Company of New Zealand, escaped from Antwerp with his wife and family, after exciting .experiences during the bombardment. He statesthat the British contingent' reached Antwerp immediately after Miv Churchill's visit on Saturday week. Mr. A. J. Barr was well known in tho Wellington-Lyttelton ferry service as chief officer of the Mararoa and Maori. On one occasion' Mr. Barr was taken seriously ill, and was compelled to remain ashore at his home in Lyttelton for several months. Later he decided to make a trip tothe Old Country for the benefit of his health. Air. Barr obtained extended leave from the Union Company, and signed on the New Zealand Shipping Company's Whakatane as fourth officer for the run Home." The liner left Lyttelton for Loudon on June 25. •
