S.S. KINI PICKED UP
TOWED INTO POET BY..S.S. KITTAWA. Early this morning the Union Comtany's disabled steamer Kini arrived in art in tow of the same company's Kitawa. The Kini has had an unpleasant •xperience,' having been adrift off the jast Coast for over a week. She was lound from Napier to Greymouth, and ivoke her tail shaft 65 miles east of 31ackhead on October 5. After spender over 40 hours in an open boat, Mr. Dalgleish, second officer, Mr. Towhseud, him engineer, and Messrs. P. Maloney, \ M'Killop, and F. Anderson (seaAen), and Messrs. J. Gosling and W. Smith .firemen) managed to reach Hackhead on Friday and reported the ccident. The tug Terawhiti and the oilier Kittawa, were dispatched from Wellington in search of the disabled teamer, and the latter vessel, has been uccessful. A pigeongram was received by the jcal office of the Union_ Company yesjrday afternoon containing the followig information concerning the finding f the Kini:— S.S. Kittawa; picked up Kini 1 a.m. n October 12 in lat. 41deg. 27min. Duth and long. 177deg. 50min. east. .11 -well, on board. Unable to proceed i inform. Terawhiti on account or heavy 2a. Encountered heavy'weather yesirday (Monday). Position 8 a.m. (Tuesay). Cape Palliser, W. by 5... 50 miles. -(Signed) J. Baldwin, Master,' Kitiwa. A later message received yesterday rternoon from Captain Baldwin, of the littawa, stated that the weather was •ie and that both vessels were making x knots, an hour. The pigeons which were' sent out in ie Terawhiti and Kittawa wore iedby Mr. J. Elliott, of Newtown. hen the Home liner Indrabarah was randed on the Rangitikei Beach some ne ago Mr. Elliott's pigeons did exllent servico on that occasion also.
