'■'■ THREE PEOPLE INJURED. , , . ■ - ■ ' ■ ', .1 A serious motor accident occurred on iliQ Hutt Road, near Rooky Point (about 1{- miles from Petone), between 5.15 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. yesterday. The motor-ear, which was owned and dnven by Mr. F. T. Clark, of Brougham Street, 'was coming towards town, with Master Noel Manthel (son of Mr. Maurice Manthe , , the Wellington electrician), sitting beside the driver, and Mrs. Manthel, senior, of Brougham Street, and her daughter, Mrs. Clark, seated on the back fifeat. At the 'point mentioned the car, it is stated, was travelling well over on its right side (the side nearest the railway line), when a four-whee'ed express wagon, owned by Geange and Co., of Upper Hutt, aud driven by A. Southee, is said to have swerved from the middle of tho tfoad, tho result being a sudden and violent collision, which overturned the motor-car; arid smashed some of the wagon's wheels. • The occupants of the motor-car fared badly. Mr. Clark and the , boy (Noel Manthel) were pinned under the car, and were both found to be seriously injured, and Mrs. Manthel, sen., and Mrs. Clark were thrown out on to the road. Mr. Clark was brought into town to tho Hospital by the ambulance in an :unconscious condition, and the report /last night was to the effect that ho was suffering from a depressed fracturo of the skull, and hie condition , could only bo described as very serious. The boy, who wae cut about badly in two places, all the skin grazed from one side of one leg, and had a contusion on one sido of his face, was attended to in town by Dr. Tolhurst, who had to sew up .tho two log wounds. Unfortunately the lad has been poorly in health for some timo past, and was just beginning to pick up in general health. Mrs.. Manthel got off with a few minor, cuts and a 'very severe shaking, and Mrs'. Clark was, save for the shock of the fall, uninjured. Mr. Aldridge, of the Hotel Cecil, brought Mrs. Manthel to town, and Mr. Johnston, of Hobson Street, did a similar service for the boy and Hrs. Clark. Dr. R-oss, of Petone, Tendered temporary aid at the BCcne of the accident, into which -unfortunate business tho police are making full inquiries.
