RUSSIAN CRUISER SUNK WITH-ALL HANDS
ATTACKED. BY SUBMARINES GERMANS HARRY THREE RUSSIAN WARSHIPS (Rec. October 14, 1.10 a.m.) ; . _. Petrograd, October .13. A communique states that submarines in the Baltic on Saturday attacked the cruiser Admiral Makaroff, which was searching a suspicious fishing boat flying the Dutch flag. Several torpedoes were discharged, but no harm was done. \ . ' • Submarines on Sunday attacked the cruisers Pallada' and Bayan. Both opened a heavy fire, but the submarines 1 torpedoes caused an explosion, sinking the Pallada with all her crew. The Pallada was an armoured cruiser of 7900 tons, launched at St. Petersburg ill 1906, and completed in 1910. She had a speed of 21 knots, and earned two Sin. and eight 6in. guns. Her complement comprised 573 men. The Admiral Makaroff is practically a sister ship to the Pallada, but with a 6lightly better speed. The Bayau also belongs to the same class, and her speed was the same as that of the Pallada.
