TRADES' UNION GALA
LABOUR DAY DEMONSTRATION,
The secretary of the Labour Day Committee (Mr. L. M. A. Rcarden) reports that-all arrangements m connection with the Labour Day demonstration, on Monday, October 26, are making satisfactory progress. Notification of displays for the procession from unions and private firms are steadily on the increase, and it is now assumed that the procession will bo the, largest and most interesting witnessed m \\ ellington. His "Worship the Mayor and Mr W. H. Morton (City Engineer) will judge the trades' exhibits, and Messrs. W. Hobson and E. B. Brien will act as judges of the horses. An attractive sports programme has been drawn up and various entertainments have also been arranged. The procession will leave the Government Buildings at 9.30 a.m., and proceed through the main streets to Newtown Park. All the leading bands will take part in the procession, and in the subsequent proceedings' at the Park. A special committee has been set up to provide amusement for children and all under twelve years of age will be admitted free. An ample stock of toys is being laid in for children's prizes. Half the net proceeds will be donated to the Mayor's War Distress Fund, and the remainder to the Trades Hall Building Fund. The secretary desires to point out that the unions are expending considerable amounts in preparing exhibits, etc., thus relieving unemployment to a large extent at tho present time, and he is confident that the public of Wellington will freely respond to the invitation to he present at Newtown Park on Labour Day.
