SATURDAY'S GALE iN THE SOUTH
DAMAGE AT TIMARU. (By Teleeraiih—Press Association.) Timaru, October 12. During the gale on Saturday Mr. H. Hill, a farmer of Pleasant Valley, lost by fire his woolshed and clip (he finished shearing on Friday), a gig and other valuables. Among the local damage caused by tiio gale, the scraping sheds on the racecourse wero stripped of the roofing, and the totaljsator house was shifted somo inches, its capsize being prevented by propping. The Hon. J. Anstey's house- at lungsdown was partly unroofed. The weather Tecords show that last month was the driest September for at least 20 years, there being only ten points of rain, while the average for that month is 205 points.
